I am packing my bags again, going for my quarterly European trip, and this time I go with my son. It is great to be on the road, to meet new people, to establish new relationships and to strengthen old ones. It did not use to be like that, a few years ago I dreaded what would happen to my business when I was gone, I have tried different ways of delegation, but it seemed that none really worked out well.

It is Saturday morning. Ashley is in the kitchen making her favorite waffles together with my hubby who is there, so called, “supervising”. I am upstairs, going over my to-do list.
Today I am conducting one of my most favorite activities, designing the welcome package for my future wedding service clientele.

You may be wondering what a welcome package is and what it is good for. Well, I had the same thoughts when I first spoke with Athena about it. We all know the importance of the relationships we build with our clients, it make sense, if our clients expect us to be more than just a service provider, there is a greater chance that they will request for our services again and maybe even refer their friends to us. The answer to that question will usually result in a significant change to our venture but how can we know the right answer?

All major businesses face this decision. YouTube was intended to be an online dating service site called Tune In Hook Up, which allowed users to upload videos of themselves, the founders made the decision that the idea is too narrow and dropped it. Nintendo used to sell playing cards. Richard Branson’s Virgin was a student magazine company for a few years before he closed it, and Marriot hotels started by selling root beer. Read more

Yesterday Jenny got to my chocolate store all upset, she looked disoriented and completely out of focus. She raised her hands to the ceiling and yelled “I just don’t have enough time to do everything I need to do. I just don’t have enough time!”. I looked at her astonished. Jenny usually does not get so emotional, that role belongs to me. I could not hold myself and giggled a bit. Jenny looked very annoyed and said “what’s so funny Liz?”.

I told her, “Jenny, you were here together with me, exactly a year ago when Charlie explained to us the key to time management. Our main insights were that we all have the same amount of time, we all have 24 hours a day, we cannot control our time, all we can do and all we ought to do is to prioritize our time, do you remember that?”.

Jenny looked really mad, “What does Charlie know, going with his brown suitcase, always having the answer, what does he know about the tough life of a business owner, I bet you every business owner end her day by saying: If I only had a few more hours I will be successful”. Read more
